Palomar Specialty Insurance (“Palomar”) is a specialty insurance company that provides catastrophe insurance for residential and commercial property. Palomar initially focused on earthquake insurance in earthquake-exposed states including California, Oregon and Washington. Earthquake insurance is an attractive product to underwrite because insureds currently have limited options to purchase earthquake insurance, and earthquake insurance is a class of business unattractive to larger, multi-line insurance companies. Palomar subsequently expanded into Texas and Hawaii wind products and regularly evaluates new product opportunities.
